Podcasts have been growing in popularity over the past few years. They are now the nation’s newest on-demand service, providing new, exciting, and relevant content.
Around 7.1 million people tune into podcasts every week to stay up-to-date on current issues and hear incredible personal stories. The Women’s Prize for Fiction’s podcast has created a new series that combines the two.
Zing Tsjeng, author of Forgotten Women, and host of her podcast, aim to shed light on the quality of women’s literature.
They’ve already given us some to start with! To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the award, 25 new episodes have already been released.
The series explores the diverse back catalogue of Women’s Prize winning books and the bookshelves inspirational women. The episodes are divided into three categories: Bookshelfie (book shelf), #ReadingWomen, and Live Specials.
The series aims to encourage women to write more and read more women’s fiction.
Bookshelfie – A look at the bookshelves and collections of our guests. These episodes will examine the lives and works of influential women through the lense of the literature that shaped their work.
ReadingWomen : 8 episodes to encourage people to read past 24 Prize winners throughout 2020. From Zadie Smith’s white teeth to Chimamanda Adichie’s Half of a Yellow Sun.
Live Specials: Listen live to recordings of exclusive events held throughout the year including the Awards Night itself.
Kate Mosse is a writer and founder of Women’s Prize. She says that the podcast feels like listening in on the best book discussion in a pub. You’d be pulling in your chair closer! It’s a wonderful, informal conversation between women in all different fields – readers and writers.
Zing Tsjeng’s exciting new series will be joined by a number of guests over the next year. Kate Mosse will be joined by bestselling author and cook Melissa Hemsley and comedian Jessica Fostekew.
