Celebrities pledge their support to charities has been a long-standing tradition. While some A-list celebrities are well-known, the list below could have slipped your radar.
Celebrity Bake Off and TV chef Nadia is currently gracing the screens of BBC2’s Nadiya’s Time to Eat. The mum of three is the patron for both the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a national children’s charity that aims to brighten the lives of seriously sick children and their families, and WaterAid, a UK water charity that provides clean water and toilets in communities around the globe.
Jessie J, the singing sensation, is a patron for Make-A-Wish UK. This children’s charity grants life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses.
The 31-year old said, “It’s been the most inspiring charity that I’ve worked with.”
“I am honored and humbled that you have asked me to become a Patron. I’ve been working for the charity for many years, and it is exciting to me that this week the public will learn about the charity and its work for young people and families.
Lisa, Celebrity Masterchef and TV chef, is currently brightening our weekends with her fiance John Torode. Lisa is the patron for Grief Encounter. This charity provides bereaved families and children with a variety of free services.
The mum of one says on her website, “My mother died when I was 16, and I know that this experience has shaped me into who I am today.” I remember that she was ill for two years, but she was preoccupied by making friends and going on dates like any other teenager. After her death, I felt like I had no one to identify with and was completely alone.
“I wish Grief Encounter existed when I was young; thank goodness that it exists now and supports bereaved kids.” I’m proud to be a Patron of Grief Encounter and spread the word about support available.
Miranda, a multi-award winning comedian, actor, and writer, is the patron for Spear and SpearHead, a charity that offers a six-week free employability course to help young people 16-24 who are facing disadvantages get into work or school.
In an interview with Chief executive Tom Jackson, the 46 year old said: “I wanted to be a part of a charity that helps young people, and it makes my heart skip.” That’s why Spear was my first choice.
Fiona, Newsreader/Antiques Roadshow Presenter, is a patron for Refuge, an organization that provides support to women, men, and children who are fleeing domestic violence or other forms of violence.
The 55-year old woman said of her role: “It was an honour to be asked to become a patron by Refuge and I accepted immediately. Without Refuge, hundreds would have nowhere to turn. “There is no one to help them escape the daily horrors of their own homes.”
