Gabby Logan has been a familiar face on our television screens for years. Gabby Logan is always near a camera because the world of sports is (thankfully) never sleeping. This means that her hair is always close to a styling tool.
I was curious to learn more about Gabby’s hair care regimen, as her hair is often exposed to heat from the top hair dryers and styling products. Does she use any hair treatment, a shampoo that has won awards or one of the top hot brushes?
Gabby, who spoke with me at a recent Cloud Nine event on healthy hair, shared her experiences and the changes her hair has undergone over time. She also discussed how these issues have affected her hair care today.
“I wore my hair wavy from my late teens onwards, but I stopped when I started working in television. In my early 20s, I started using heat products because no one else on TV had wavy or curly hair. As I grew older, I noticed that my hair started to look less ‘nice curly’ and more frizzy because I was damaging it by using the hair tools.
“I noticed changes during pregnancy, but the biggest change came when I reached the perimenopausal phase in my mid-40s. I thought,’my God, it feels really dry’. I didn’t know what perimenopause was, so I didn’t know the symptoms.
Gabby discovered by accident that the changes in her hair were directly related to her life stage. “Thank God I found out. I was speaking to Mariella through my podcast Midpoint and thought, “These symptoms sound familiar”. After that, everything started to fall into position and I thought “ok, what do I have to do?”
Gabby then made some lifestyle adjustments to improve the health and appearance of her hair.
“I tried to reduce my use of heat and went back to regular hair treatments.” If I were filming, I’d avoid heat on days in between to give my hair a rest.” Gabby also uses a Keratin hairdryer to reduce the amount of styling that she needs. “It makes my life easier if I’m going to be away for a long time, like during the World Cup. I can use less heat.” It will save me both time and my hair.
“I love heat-controlled hair products because they are so sophisticated that you don’t feel guilty using them.”
Gabby turned her focus inwards as well. “Seeing a nutritionist who made sure that I included lots of proteins in my diet was a game changer for me in this perimenopausal stage. It wasn’t just a placebo or my imagination. Many people have commented that my hair has improved since I started paying more attention to my nutrition.
Regular trims is the last thing Gabby swears to for healthy hair. “I would say six to eight times a year.” It’s a good thing to be reminded how important it is to wash and condition your hair properly. It’s not just because you feel great after leaving a salon. They spend a lot of time cleaning and conditioning your hair.
“I try to control things that will help my hair, including making sure I have a good conditioner and shampoo. I use Living Proof. I’ve tried other products but always return to Living Proof because it works for me. I also use Cloud Nine Magic Spray pre-blow dry if my hair is starting to get a little dry after being washed and conditioned.
“In some ways, being on television is a nightmare for my hair, but in others, it’s made it more conscious – I pay more attention to it.”
